Did you think that D.C. was alone in its leaded water problems? Boston, Philadelphia and New York water consumers could be drinking water that has tested high for lead, but various water authorities have thrown out tests with high-lead results. Now Jim Jeffords, the Independent Senator from Vermont who chairs the Senate’s Environment and Public Works Committee, and Paul Sarbanes, a Democratic Senator from Maryland, wrote a letter to EPA Administrator Mike Leavitt pressing his agency to take action, the Post reports.

In a seperate action, Jeffords and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York, asked the EPA’s inspector general to “determine, among other things, whether EPA and state regulators ignored evidence of law-breaking by utilities and thus failed in their duty to safeguard the public,” the Post reports.
