While Red Sox fans celebrated Boston’s long-awaited World Series win in Beantown and elsewhere, D.C. police were busy keeping the peace in some quarters from the ground and the air.
The Metropolitan Police tried to rein in drunken Red Sox fans on the campus of George Washington University late last night and early this morning where one student was arrested. A number of newspaper boxes were turned over and a few small fires were set near Kogan Plaza. The Hatchet, which estimated the crowd that spilled onto H Street to be around 1,000 revelers, noted this:
Motorcycle-riding officers, riot gear-clad officers and a helicopter incited more aggressive responses from the crowd.
