DCist loves it how certain neighborhoods in the District take their communities very seriously. And rightfully so. But we especially love the folks up along Foxhall Road for their fiery drive and determination to preserve their leafy, village-like enclave and everything it stands for. When there’s a problem, the neighborhood pounces.
While the newest controversy hasn’t seemed to generate same kind of drama like the “Mongolian Hordes! (from Virginia)” community picnic did from a few months back, we think it’s worth highlighting the new enemy: awkward signage in front of the Foxhall Village retail center on Foxhall Road near Q Street.
According to Foxhall.org (where we snagged this photo), the signage clashes with the historic setting of the 1930s Tudor village. Signs for Happy Nail, Jetties sandwich shop and Georgetown Dentistry are a cluttered visual affront to passing motorists and are a neighborhood eyesore.
Now that the Casey Foundation/mayoral mansion proposal is no longer ruffling the feathers of the local Foxhallians, we’re curious what the next controversy is going to be. (That rowdy dilapidated group house with the European embassy interns? Georgetown University cross country runners leaving footprints in Glover Archbold Park? Tire-eating potholes in front of the German Chancery? Thankfully, the row over the dormer window on Greenwich Parkway has settled down, but the collapsing wooded bank above the busy Reservoir Road/Foxhall Road intersection still has to be resolved.)
