Matt Drudge is breathlessly reporting a local activist caused a “melee” at today’s press conference to unveil the logo to the newly-named Washington Nationals. The activist in question was none other than D.C. Statehood Green Party member and failed candidate for D.C. Shadow Representative Adam Eidinger. Drudge reports: “Eidinger was jumped by several men, including former Washington Senators announcer Charlie Brotman. A tussle ensued, and the podium nearly fell over, before security managed to drag Eidinger off stage.”
The baseball stadium proposal has sparked considerable ire from some District activists, including one group which has launched the website NoDCTaxesForBaseball.org and plastered their eye-catching ‘stadium givaway’ posters around town. Under the announced plan, the proposed Southeast baseball stadium would be financed through a special business tax and with revenues from food and merchandise sold at the stadium.
In recent months, you may remember Eidinger from Capitol Hill checkpoint protests, a D.C. flag drop off the Dumbarton Bridge, and his D.C. statehood dragon which burned at the Republican’s convention in New York in August.
Eidinger is shown here in a photo from his campaign website protesting the Capitol Hill checkpoints with his daughter.
