>> Doug Wilson of “Trading Spaces” fame will be at the Corcoran Museum of Art at 7 p.m. for a talk & book signing. The fee for listening to his kernels of design wisdom is $18 for general public and $15 for Corcoran members. While there, check out “Figuratively Speaking: The Human Form in American Art, 1770-1950,” a new exhibit featuring sculpture and paintings from the Corcoran’s permanent collections.
>> “Book as Art XV” closes at the National Museum of Women in the Arts this Sunday. The exhibition features 36 loosely defined books that address emotional topics like the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and the Holocaust.
>> The Folger Shakespeare Library takes on paper artifacts of a different era in “Letterwriting in Renaissance England.” The exhibition includes various manuscripts and early printed letters from the Library’s collections; it’s on view
until April 2.
>> Bid on a piece of recent D.C. history at the Funky Furniture auction on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 9 p.m. The $20 (per couple) admission to the pre-auction reception includes a bidding badge. Look to Artomatic for details on the works for sale — including the infamous painting of Bush and Cheney that got removed from the City Museum.
>> If you’re looking for something a bit less controversial, head out to the wilds of the Virginia suburbs this weekend for the McLean Project for the Art‘s annual holiday shopping event. Various items from museum shops at the Freer Gallery of Art, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Monticello, and more will be vailable for sale. Admission is a $6 donation.
