(From DCist contributor Zoe Mitchell)

Yeah, yeah, we know flash mobs were, like, so 2003, but DCist is intrigued by a posting on a local blog about a ‘First DC Flash Mob’. Technically, it isn’t really the first in D.C., but this flash mob excites us because:

Traditionally, flash mobs have had no political connotations, however, this one will be different.

While flash mobs in other cities have been politicized, in protest-happy D.C., flash mobs have in general been apolitical and fun. Perhaps it’s because local protesters have been too busy planning larger, upcoming protests. Or perhaps it’s because we have been waiting for someone to organize one.

Perhaps we should stop speculating and just provide the details as we know them: this Saturday at sometime between noon and 4 p.m. the First (Political) DC Flash Mob will congregate somewhere in the area, do something political and fun, and then disperse.

Although requests for more information from the listed firstdcflashmob (at) yahoo.com address has yielded nothing so far, we will not be deterred! We understand that these flash mobs are supposed to be somewhat spontaneous, but we’ll keep you posted if we get any more details.
