A brief report on WTOP states that a person is apparently stuck under an Orange line train at the Metro Center station. It’s not certain whether the person fell from the platform or jumped, or what the person’s condition is.

WMATA’s web site says there will be a 20-minute delay on the Blue and Orange lines in both directions and advises the following:

A major delay is in effect on the Blue and Orange lines due to a person struck by a train at Metro Center. Blue and Orange line trains are not running through Metro Center. They are instead turning back at Smithsonian and Foggy Bottom.

Did any DCist readers happen to be at Metro Center when this happened? We’d appreciate any updates or information.

Going to Virginia? Take the Yellow Line from Gallery Place-Chinatown or L’Enfant Plaza to the Pentagon and pick up the Blue Line to Rosslyn (and back toward Vienna-bound Orange Line trains) or continue south toward Alexandria. Or from Farragut Square, take the 38B bus from K Street (just west of Connecticut Avenue) in the direction of Ballston.

Hopefully this will be taken care of by the evening rush.

UPDATE: The Post is reporting that the person was killed.

UPDATE: 5:10 p.m. … You’re best to check WMATA’s website for updated information for Orange and Blue Line service. Getting to Virginia could be quite a pain, and expect crowded Yellow Line platforms downtown.
