Happy Friday, folks. Like we’ve said, enjoy the weather this weekend, eventhough there will be some rain tomorrow.
FRIDAY:
>> Since we were shamed about omitting them in our January music round-up, let’s make sure to tell you: punk rockers Me First and the Gimme Gimmes are playing the Black Cat. Except, oops — looks like it’s sold out. Sorry. We suck.
>> MCCXXIII is donating 100 percent of the proceeds raised at a benefit show to the Unicef Tsunami Relief and the Save The Children Fund. The show, featuring DJs Deep Dish (who are pictured at right receiving a Grammy for “Best Remixed Recording” for their
take on Dido’s “Thank You”), is 21+ and will run you $10. It’s a worthy cause, so check it out. 9 p.m.
>> The Freer’s 9th annual festival of Iranian films features five new works showcasing the best in modern day Iranian movies. It starts this evening with “The Unfinished Story” and runs through Feb. 6. Free tickets are distributed an hour before the show.
SATURDAY:
>> We don’t care if we’re being blogcestuous: You need to go to the Black Cat tonight to see Bluestate, a night of DJing by DCist’s Kyle (aka DJ Information Leafblower), Seeking Irony, WeirdCurves and DCSOB. It’ll be backstage at 9:30 p.m. Free! And hey, the Post mentioned it in its weekend suggestions too.
>> Hurry! “Dan Flavin: A Retrospective” closes tomorrow, and features 44 minimalist fluorescent installations at the National Gallery of Art East Building.
>> CrossCurrents Dance Company performs modern-dance pieces at Dance Place. Tickets are $8-16, and the show starts at 8 p.m.
SUNDAY:
>> “Pedro Almodóvar: Director on the Verge” is a tribute to the surreal work of the Spanish director at the AFI tonight. His film “Talk to Her,” about two women in comas and their lovers, plays at 1 p.m. $8.50.
>> Chicago folk-rocker Kat Parons hits Iota in Arlington this evening at 9 p.m. $10.
