I really like mashups and would love to know if there are any djs in D.C. who have mashup nights. Something like this except in D.C. instead of Cambridge, Mass.

Unfortunately DCist can’t be too much help here because as far as our knowledge extends (and the knowledge of everyone usually in the know that we consulted) there are no mashup nights in the D.C. area. The best we have to offer is stretching it a bit, but WHFS (99.1 FM) offers a mashup radio show on Friday nights (scratch that, apparently WHFS turned into a spanish language station today?), Saint Ex’s (14th and T NW) Gate 54 and Wednesday night iPod DJ night may both offer a little taste of mashup here and there, and last Friday’s Bluestate at the Blackcat backstage incorporated this mashup of Jay-Z’s “99 Problems” and Nina’s “99 Red Balloons.” So D.C.’s current mashup scene sppears to be more of a hit-or-miss situation, rather than a tried and true mashup scene.

When DCist spoke with people about the mashup scene in D.C. there seemed to be a general consensus of “there isn’t really one and it’s a shame.” So if you (or any DCist reader) have the desire and perseverance, coaxing a local establishment to host a regular mashup night might be received quite well.

For those who aren’t quite sure what mashup is The New Yorker recently published a little insight into the scene.
