Ahh, no more manhole explosions. No more bumpy roads. No more metal plates. The massive utility reconstruction that has torn up Georgetown for much of the past few years is winding down, but the Post reports that something else will be gone when the work officially wraps up: free parking.

Parking meters will be returning soon to M Street, from 28th Street to the Key Bridge. Georgetown will be getting a new kind of parking meter, new at least to District streets. Each meter will cover 10 spaces. Drivers who snag a spot have to print out a ticket from the meter and place it in their window. Installation may start next month, but there will be a one-month grace period on fines as drivers get used to the parking system.

And as a friendly reminder, dear readers, please, even with the construction complete, it is not time to bring your limos into Georgetown. This summer, this DCist witnessed a dowdy matron climb out of her limo with Virginia plates in front of the Thomas Sweet ice cream parlor, blocking traffic on Wisconsin Avenue as she waited in line to get a double scoop. That’s just *not* cool, in more ways than one.
