DCist wanted to do a longer recap of this week’s “West Wing” episode, since it was actually a good one, but we’re dealing with a killer headache, recovering from an extended commute to work this morning due to delays on the Blue Line, and a spotty Internet connection. Since we’ve been accused of being too negative in the past, we’ll only focus on the positive aspects of this episode, and bring you the List of Things DCist Enjoyed About This Episode.
First, a brief summary. We’re again on the campaign trail as the three candidates make their way from New Hampshire to Iowa. Senator Vinick (Alan Alda) along with Bingo Bob Russell and Congressman Santos are now hitting the Iowa Caucuses. The episode is like “a day in the life of a campaign” and we see a routine day for each of the campaigns. In Iowa, the candidates are all attending some “Iowa Loves Corn” festival or whatever and have to take a stand on ethanol subsidies. All three candidates are privately against it, but know that saying so to Iowa farmers is bad politics. VP Russell listens to devil spawn Will Bailey, panders to the farmers and comes out in favor of ethanol subsidies. Santos puts up a better fight against Josh, but he too caves at the last minute (despite the objections of his pretty wife) and supports the subsidies. Senator Hawkeye knows it’s political suicide in Iowa to be against the subsidies for farmers, but says exactly what he thinks: that ethanol is a load of horse manure. His campaign is worried about it, but he’s not.
