Last Friday were were sad to hear of the passing of legendary actor and civil rights leader Ossie Davis. Davis and his wife, Ruby Dee, were recognized at the 27th Kennedy Center Honors in December. We’ll remember him not only for his great acting but also the times when we saw him interviewed – including this powerful interview we saw him give with Bill Moyers on NOW. The news program Democracy Now! has dedicated today’s show on Mr. Davis. (The photo is from this PBS webpage)

The New York Times reported that “what may have been” Mr. Davis’s last interview will be broadcast on Feb. 21 on the Tavis Smiley show to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Malcolm X. Davis eulogized both Dr. King and Malcolm X. Smiley’s show is aired at various times on local PBS stations, for listings see the show website.

In a related note, the PBS documentary about the first-ever woman candidate for president Shirly Chisholm, “Chisholm ’72: Unbought and Unbossed”, premiers tonight on PBS. In the D.C. area you can catch it tonight at 10 p.m. on Maryland Public Television or on Feb. 13 on WETA.
