A group of bus drivers staged a protest outside WMATA headquarters today at noon, demanding stiffer penalties for people who attack bus drivers and additional safety measures for drivers. The AP reports that the drivers “want more video cameras on buses, increased police patrols,” and that a Metro official said a “high-level meeting is planned for next week, and that Metro would like to increase the number of cameras and officers.” The D.C. council of the AFL-CIO posted this photo on their website and announced it to members.

The AP also reported that Metro is speeding up plans to put “bomb-resistant” trash cans on Metrorail station platforms, even though they cost about $1,000 each – and Metro needs about 800.
