Having recovered from our Grammys-induced seizure last night, here are our picks for the week’s best shows. For your listening pleasure, we’ve provided mp3s or streaming tracks where available. And as always, please let us know what concerts you’ll be enjoying in the next seven days.
TONIGHT:
>> Andy Zipf, at left, is a local singer/songwriter who blends electronic loops with acoustic guitar. Local duo Brindley Brothers (who also own Jammin’ Java) play an opening acoustic set. Iota, 8:30 p.m., $8. Listen to Zipf’s “Are We Going Down?” or “Playing With the Light” from the Brindley Brothers.
WEDNESDAY:
>> $100 a ticket apparently isn’t too steep a cost to see singer/songwriters Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt, Guy Clark and Joe Ely together, because the Wednesday performance seems to have sold out. Frankly, we think it might be worth it for Lovett’s voice o’ gold and Hiatt’s countrified, electrified guitar rock. Birchmere, 7:30 p.m., $100.
THURSDAY:
>> Visqueen plays dynamic, intricate and catchy power pop. Velvet Lounge. Listen to “Blue.”
>> De Novo Dahl brings well-crafted rock from Nashville to our fair city. Warehouse Next Door, 8:30 p.m. Listen to “Memphis,” a Jeff Buckley tribute.
SATURDAY:
>> Local blogger Justin Logan says of Gogol Bordello, an energetic gypsy rock group, that they’re “unfettered, sweaty, good old fashioned gypsy/punk rock music that makes you want to go nuts dancing.” Music blogger Largehearted Boy has a page full of GB mp3s. Black Cat, 9:30 p.m., $12
SUNDAY:
>> Up-and-coming local popsters Washington Social Club always entertain — their lead singer, Marty Royle, is musically frenetic, and the bands energetic tunes will have you singing along before the end of the night. With Ostinato and Seymour Glass. Black Cat, 8:30 p.m., $7. Listen to “Simple Sound.”
