The world famous Japanese drumming group Kodo will be coming to D.C. tomorrow for a performance at the DAR Constitution Hall sponsored by the Washington Performing Arts Society, who says that “From the entry of the 800-pound o-daiko drum on a cart illuminated by Japanese lanterns to the extreme physicality of the playing positions, the Kodo Drummers are all about ritual performance.” DCist was wowed by a performance a number of years ago and it seems the group has been going strong since then. Their athletic drumming is well worth checking out.

If that weren’t enough to convince you to go, the group even has a (bilingual) group blog where they have been documenting their North American trip with photos and text, even posting a photo of Kodo head Aoki San even though the poster says he “gave me very clear and specific orders not to put these pictures up on the internet.” We’re glad they’ve figured out the essence of blogging so quickly. An earlier post hits at what you might expect at a performance, reporting “The concert passed without any major incidents. Nobody tripped or dropped something or fell off of anything.” Ticketmaster has tickets available for tomorrow’s performance ranging from $20 to $55.
