Considering the shocking violence at this weekend’s Bhangra Blowout, it’s safe to say that future such events, especially those held at federal buildings involving heavy drinking, will be placed under intense scrutiny.
Three people were stabbed — one fatally — following a fight outside the Old Post Office Pavilion on Pennsylvania Avenue at 12th Street NW (at right). Here’s the latest from the Post:
A 5-foot-8 man of either Hispanic or Indian ethnicity, wearing a white shirt and braces on his teeth, pulled out a knife and fatally stabbed Ranjit Singh, 20, of Phillipsburg, N.J., police said.
The assailant escaped into a green car and sped off.
The Post notes that this incident, coupled with the fatal stabbing at Club U in the District’s Reeves municipal building, will highlight flaws in events security at government buildings. According to the Old Post Office Pavilion, the historic building “provides the ideal — and exceptionally spectacular — setting for a wide range of special events … from lavish receptions, elegant balls, and cocktail parties to sit-down dinners, dances, and much more.”
Much more indeed.
