WMATA’s project to explore alternatives to bus and Metro service to the downtown area has selected seven corridors for further study for the system which would likely consist of either dedicated bus lanes or modern street cars. WMATA broke ground last fall on the Anacostia Corridor Demonstration Project, an effort to test the viability of a new streetcar system. The corridors selected run along the current routes of the city’s 30s, 90s, and 70s bus lines, as well as routes running through downtown, along the waterfront area, and along K Street.
