Yes, yes, we know — we’re late this week with the musical agenda. We were checking out the beautiful city of one of our sister blogs, but now we’re back and ready with the shows of the week.
WEDNESDAY:
>> California band Eagles of Death Metal (a side-project of the frontman for Queens of the Stone Age) play the Black Cat with local group The Whips (whose mp3s you can listen to here). And a bunch of live Eagles of Death Metal mp3s are here. 8:30, $12.
THURSDAY:
>> It’s a lovely local lineup tonight at DC9, where Bellflur, The Bonapartes and City-State play atmospheric glitchrock. Admission’ll run you just $6. Check mp3s here (Bellflur), here (City-State), and here (The Bonapartes).
>> Austinites … And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead bring their delicate yet bruising post-rock to the Black Cat. 8:30, $14.
FRIDAY:
>> Bluesy rockers The Fiery Furnaces play the 9:30 Club. Dios Malos and Blood on the Wall open. $15.
SATURDAY:
>> We couldn’t believe it when, a few weeks ago, we discovered the Black Cat Bloc Party show was already sold out. Shame on us for not getting tickets earlier; the buzz around this British band’s inspired post-punk/pop-rock tunes has obviously reached the States. You can listen to a few mp3s here.
SUNDAY:
>> If you’re looking for a perfect spring band, you should check out OK Go, who play the Black Cat this evening. Their happy, poppy, energetic tunes will have you dancing around the cherry blossoms. Local indie rockers Army of Me open. $12.
And as a sidenote: It’s just been announced today that Bruce Springsteen will be hitting the Patriot Center on Saturday, May 14. It happens to be the same day as the HFStival, but having seen both Springsteen in concert and having attended several HFStivals, we’ll put our money on Bruce. But maybe that’s just because we’re getting older. We’ll keep you updated about the ticket situation.
