FRIDAY:
>> Ruth Reichl, editor-in-chief of Gourmet Magazine and former food critic at The New York Times, comes to Politics and Prose to discuss “Garlic & Sapphires,” a memoir of her times as a food critic. 7 p.m. Check out an interesting interview with her here, from back in 1996.

>> Today marks the start of the Bethesda Literary Festival, which continues all weekend. The festival features contests, readings and participants such as the Post’s Joel Achenbach and Maryland’s poet laureate, Michael Glaser. The schedule can be found here.

>> For nine years, the dirty-minded artists at Cherry Red Productions churned out devious theatrical entertainments of resplendent smut and copious amounts of bodily fluid. Last year, the company went on a sort of indefinite hiatus, but they’re baaaaaack! And they’re coming to D.C. with a brand new film, a remake of the 1922 exploitation flick and cult classic “Trapped By The Mormons,” starring an eclectic mix of D.C. and New York actors. Shot in classic silent film style, it’s sure to be deeply, deeply naughty.

SATURDAY:
>> We highly recommend this Saturday’s Blowoff DJ night and live set at the 9:30 Club, as mentioned earlier in our interview with Bob Mould. Doors open at 11 p.m. and tickets are $10.

>> If you’re already longing for fall and football seasons, head out to FedEx Field where they’re hosting a Redskins Draft Day Party. To receive a free invitation, head here; doors open at 11 a.m. and it goes on until 6.

>> Need to get rid of that old monitor or crappy television? Hit up the electronics-recycling event today from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., hosted by the D.C. Department of Public Works at Carter Barron Amphitheatre.

SUNDAY:
>> If the weather’s nice, why not check out the White House Spring Garden Tour (which takes place on Saturday, too)? Today’s tours take place from noon to 4 p.m. The event is free, but you need a ticket to attend – they’ll be distributed at the Ellipse Visitor Pavilion starting at 7:30 a.m. Call (202) 208-1631 for more info.

What do you have planned?
