We love riding Metro. Whether buses or rail, DCist uses Metro regularly to commute to work or otherwise get around the city. Like most D.C. residents, we abide by what we like to call the Secret Rules of Metrorail. Yes, beyond the official rules we’ve found there are a number of unwritten guidelines, which, if broken, are sure to incur the wrath of your fellow passengers, if only on Craigslist.

These rules have crept into our coverage before – we have answered readers questions from how to pick up a date to whether to leave behind your Express. However, we’ve saved the full Metro rules until today, when we unveil our first in an occasional series of infographics.
