Same-sex Couples Prohibited from Filing Joint Taxes: D.C.’s Chief Financial Officer Natwar Gandhi ruled yesterday gay couples could not file taxes jointly in D.C., even if they were married in another state, the Post reports. It is thought the decision was made partly due to threats by Republican Sen. Sam Brownback, who chairs the appropriations committee on the District and threatened reprisals if they city approved joint filings.

Small Steps Towards Voting Rights: A Virginia Republican has introduced a bill that would give D.C. a voting representative in the U.S. House of Representatives, and also give an additional seat to Utah, the AP via the W. Times reports. D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton has said she would support the bill if it gets more support than hers, which provides for two senators and one representative for D.C.

ProFunds Field at RFK? A Bethesda-based investment company is nearing a deal with the D.C. Sports and Entertainment Commission to purchase the naming rights of RFK stadium for over $5 million, the Post reports. Negotiations with the armed services seem to have fallen apart after Sen. John Warner of Virginia raised objections over the appropriateness of the expenditure.

SE Hospital Recruits Nurses Abroad: The Greater Southeast Community Hospital is looking abroad to recruit nurses to give the hospital a stable workforce, the W. Times reports. After recovering from financial problems the hospital is using a private company to recruit nurses from as far away as China and India.
