Have you ever bought this book? Well you then probably have some left over electronics when you attempted the “Sonic Phasor Cannon, Electromagnetic Launcher, Tesla Coi [and] Ultrasonic Microphone.” For those who have “obsolete electronics,” the District will dispose of them free of charge this Saturday. According to the Department of Public Works:
Many types of electronics contain significant amounts of potentially hazardous materials such as arsenic, lead and mercury. In the US it is estimated that approximately 70 percent of the toxic metals in landfills comes from discarded electronics. Pollution and the potential for adverse health effects from improper disposal of electronics are becoming serious concerns. Additionally, almost all of the materials in electronics—from plastics and glass to precious metals—can be extracted and reused.
Remember, D.C. residents only. The drop-off site is at the Carter Barron Amphitheatre at 16th and Kennedy streets NW. We’ll give some sort of prize to the person who posts a photo in DCist Photos of somebody hauling a big TV up to Carter Barron on the S1,S2,S4 buses.
This is the second of two e-cycling collections. The first was in April before Earth Day.
