>> The 10th annual Mary Lou Williams Women in Jazz Festival commences tonight and runs through this Saturday at the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater. The festival showcases some of today’s top female jazz vocalists; you can check out a schedule here.
FRIDAY:
>> The Dresden Dolls (pictured at left), who play self-dubbed “Brechtian punk cabaret,” put on an early, 6:30 p.m. show at the 9:30 Club. They’re followed by a later show from recently-reunited, seminal dance-punkers Gang of Four. 10 p.m., $25.
SATURDAY:
>> If you didn’t get tickets to the now-sold-out Ryan Adams show at the 9:30 Club, head over to the Black Cat to catch the 10 year anniversary of local indie band Velvet. Monopoli and Gist open. Your $8 ticket will benefit Street Sense Newspaper.
