A few weeks ago, I was walking by the Bank of America building across from the Treasury Department and noticed a film crew set up. Searching the Internet didn’t reveal any info about who was there, though I did find a link at the DC film site telling me about three more TV series that are going to be doing occasional filming in the District.
But what I want to know is where I can go to find real-time (or at least more updated than the DC Film Office site) info about productions filming in the District. If Donald Sutherland’s going be shutting down one of the arteries on my bus route, I want to *know* it’s Donald Sutherland, but aside from the Post every so often doing a feature, no one seems to bother telling us who’s filming where. Does anyone know where I can get the info?
Unfortunately, Ask DCist can’t help you with a better listing site. Every bit of information on filming we have gotten comes from rumor and hearsay (or the random article in the Post). Remember when DCist thought The Real World was going to come to D.C.? Or when we found out Paris and Nicole were trying to get an intern gig on Capitol Hill?
We did give the District’s Office of Motion Picture and Television Development a ring to ask them for pointers, but they replied that they do not publish those listings, however would be more than happy to discuss what is filming in the District and any casting or crewing opportunities if you give them a ring. They say they do notify area residents of filming that may block traffic or create some form of spectacle (blowing things up we suppose would qualify), but that doesn’t really help you if you aren’t a property owner in the immediate surrounds.
Our suggestion for anyone that comes across filming in the District or its surrounds: stop someone and ask, and then send DCist the tip and/or blog it yourself.
