The vitality of thought is in adventure. Ideas won’t keep. Something must be done about them. When the idea is new, its custodians have fervor, live for it, and, if need be die for it.
Alfred North Whitehead
(1861-1947)
British mathematician and philosopher

OK, so I won’t necessarily die for my ideas (I’d make a horrible Vercingetorix or Imre Nagy), but you get the point. Starting DCist nearly a year ago, I had no idea what to expect and didn’t even consider the possibility that DCist could have grown to the size it has in just under a year.

All the late nights and early mornings now all seem worth it. Since I’m using the first person, this is a special post. As you’ve already read, I’m leaving my daily editing and management duties at DCist and my real-time job at Roll Call for an editing position with The Washington Post‘s Express. There I’ll be editing and developing the local news pages and will work on other projects.

But my DCist departure is bittersweet.
