Review from DCist contributor Jake Wolman. You can see more photos from last night’s show here

Last night, DCist attended the first of three consecutive sold-out Thievery Corporation shows at the 9:30 club. Thievery Corporation, who got their start here in D.C., is the brainchild of Eric Hilton and Rob Garza, the owners of the Eighteenth Street Lounge (and label), DJs who’ve long been known for their exotic remixes and sophisticated international style. They attracted a concomitantly-urbane crowd, seemingly composed exclusively of multilingual jet-setters (and the occasional blogger) — these must be the folks who hang out at the Eighteenth Street Lounge while we are sipping whiskey at Stetson’s. At any rate, we were intrigued by the impressive array of instrumentation laid out on the stage and were eager to see it put to work. Around 9:50, Hilton and Garza came out to resounding cheers, and we settled in for a mellow show.
