Arguably the most successful stand-up comedian to come out of D.C. may be pulling the plug on his wildly popular Comedy Central show for good, according to Chappelle’s Show star Charlie Murphy.

“I don’t think Dave is going to do it anymore,” Murphy told the New York Post yesterday. “We shot about eight shows for the third season, and they’re hilarious. They’ll be released on DVD, I’m sure. But that’s it.”

Season three of Chappelle’s Show was supposed to premiere May 31, but Chappelle jumped ship and took off to South Africa for a “spiritual retreat,” leading to further filming being delayed for months. The show’s future has been in limbo ever since.

No official word yet from Chappelle, Ashy Larry, or Tron, but DCist hopes it ain’t so. We would hate to see Chappelle’s Show turn into a real-life case of “When Keepin’ it Real Goes Wrong.” More details here.
