“Hey, where’d you get that?!”

Following shopping trips to N.Y.C., Alishia Frey and Grace Wang found that they were constantly stopped on the streets of D.C. by fashionistas inquiring about their hip shirts, cuffs, earrings, etc. While many a fashionable gal hides her style secrets like her jeans size, Frey and Wang last month launched unsungdesigners.com to bring indie designer creations to what Frey calls D.C.’s “seriously lacking market.”

Unsung is a women’s clothing and accessories site that combines the creativity of designs from your favorite local boutique with the clickability of an online megastore. The site features local designs such as jewelry from You Luck Girl, handbags from Julie Christenberry Designs and Range of Emotion, yoga gear from tranquiliT, and silk accessories from Fable Collection. Also, the site soon will add jewelry from Queen Bee Designs. (Non-cyber shoppers can check out the Unsung showroom at 2412 18th Street NW in Adams Morgan, where Frey said they plan to have events such as sample sales and trunk shows.)

The site also links to the “unsung blog,” which includes international contributors, and will feature interviews with emerging designers, fashion previews, advice and ideas. The site will include a private online forum for its member designers, which could help designers who are just starting out gain insight from more experienced designers.

Aww…how sweet. And we thought the fashion industry was just one big catfight after last season’s Project Runway. Take that, Wendy Pepper.
