While such electronic services and devices may have the ability to both enrich our lives and boost our productivity, let us never forget that behind any scientific or technological advance is the ever-present promise of profit. Steve Jobs may be a perfectly swell fellow, but he is first and foremost a shrewd businessman, masterminding a global plot to fill every human head with pearly white earbuds.
So, in the name of both digital progress and digital consumerism, NBC4 proudly presents the Digital Edge Expo, billed as “the largest technology consumer event in the US.”
This Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Washington Convention Center will have a great change of pace from such thrilling events as the Ethiopian Expo, the Internal Medicine Board Certification Examinations, and what promises to be a legendary meeting of the American Chemical Society. Instead, the doors will open up to legions of technophiles, gadgeteers, and desperate mothers hoping that someone there can tell her how to install AOL. While the prospect of an entire convention center dedicated to expensive toys makes this geeky DCist all hot and bothered, upon further investigation, the whole show seems, to put it bluntly, pretty lame
