Stiff. Boring. Buttoned-up. We might joke about our conservatively dressed city, but let’s face it: there’s nothing that makes you feel more polished and professional than a great suit. We bet you can remember the suit you were wearing when you landed your first real job, and there are aspiring professional women in our city who are ready to make a similar memory.

Suited for Change, a D.C.-based nonprofit that provides professional attire to low-income women seeking employment, on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon will collect interview appropriate clothing and accessories at 1712 I Street, NW Suite B100.

When you are cleaning out your closet to make room for your fall wardrobe, ask yourself if you really need five nearly-identical black handbags or three pairs of grey tweed pants. And what about that it’s-really-not-me-but-it-was-such-a-good-deal suit? According to the Suited for Change Web site, they don’t accept items like lingerie, casual Friday attire and white or bright-colored hosiery. But really, why would you donate that anyway? And it’s also not a dumping ground for your past wardrobe indiscretions. Admit it: that lavender polyester short-sleeved suit was NEVER a good idea.

Check out the Suited for Change Web site for more donation details, and help redefine power suit.
