You’ve got just a brief amount of time to head out and catch the last screening of the DC Shorts Film Festival. At 3 p.m. at the E Street Cinema, the Fest is hosting its finale series, the Lunafest Program, which features 8 short films with a decidedly pro-woman slant to them. Proceeds benefit the Breast Cancer Fund.
Following the screening, ticket and festival pass holders are invited to a closing night party over at Flashpoint Arts Center. Since it’s also serving as a charity benefit, and based on DCist’s experience at the Opening Night soirée on Friday, we’d recommend bringing plenty of cash if you plan on taking advantage of the bar.
By all apperances, today’s films were selected not by DC Shorts festival director Jon Gann, but by someone connected with Luna Bars. DCist has no idea whether this is a good or a bad thing; the opening night screening on Friday (actually curated by Gann) was a bit of a mixed bag. José Carlos Ruiz’s Cuadrilátero was a meditative, fully-realized vignette about love, loss and longing. D.C. Douglas’ Duck, Duck, GOOSE! (pictured above), on the other hand, was an irritating exercise in over-acting and self indulgent genre-blending.
