After the Dupont Circle pizzeria Alberto’s closed due to a fire in March, the store put up a banner promising to return after “renovations.” Following several weeks of apparent inaction, our hopes that we might once again enjoy a delicious jumbo slice at 3 a.m. without venturing to Adams Morgan began to fade. But, we heard this week the pizzeria was back, and we knew we had to see it in person.

It may have taken six months to restart the operation and the freshly re-painted walls are a bit barren, but when we stopped in yesterday it was as if Alberto’s hadn’t skipped a beat. On the counter was a stack of their no-nonsense menus (apparently identical to before), the pizza looked delicious, and they were serving a steady stream of customers. The woman who helped us to a slice of spinach and mushroom ($3.75) said business has been brisk since the Monday re-opening. If you like your slice served with a crispy crust, lovingly garnished with Italian seasonings and fresh grated Romano, and away from the raucous crowds of Adams Morgan, be sure to check out Alberto’s. They are open until 4 a.m. Thursday through Saturday and serve jumbo slices to go as well as thin crust, stuffed and pan pizzas for pick-up or delivery.
