I recently received a bottle of wine that would normally be way, way out of my range as a gift. Are there are any recommended restaurants that will do a tasting menu based on the wine?

The Caucus Room’s Executive Chef Lisa Graves will create a menu to compliment your wine(s). Simply call Isabella at the resturant and she will talk you through the details, including food preferences and the number of courses you envision. Friday and Saturday evenings are the typical evenings for these dinners, but Wednesday and Thursday are possible as well. DCist suggests calling two weeks in advance to ensure enough prep time.

Actually, a tasting dinner at The Caucus Room is Lot 120 at tonight’s Charity Wine Auction hosted by The California State Society and the Congressional Wine Caucus. The lot, featuring a dinner for eight paired with wine selections provided by the Wine Institute, is among more than 100 offered at the fundraiser to benefit the Bush-Clinton Katrina Relief Fund. If you’re interested, you can attend with a suggested $20 donation. Lots range in value from $45 to more than $10,000.

In addition to a personally prepared meal at The Caucus Room, you can also opt to head to a number of area restaurants that offer corkage — which essentially means that for a fee you bring your own bottle and the resturant pours it with your dinner with the usual ceremony. Just remember, etiquette dictates that you call ahead to ensure that the bottle of wine you bring is not one the restaurant offers and that it is of a higher quality (read: no Woodbridge).
