Victoria’s Secret is causing a sensation, and this time it’s not for their (revolutionary!) new IPEX bra. Shoppers at the new Tysons Corner Center addition are getting their panties in a bunch by the store’s, shall we say, titillating new window display.

With shoppers alternately ourtraged and thrilled by the “Backstage Sexy” display — which features lingerie-clad mannequins bent over and sprawled across beds — it’s clear that a mannequin hasn’t stirred up this much controversy since Andrew McCarthy fell in love with one played by Kim Cattrall in the eponymous 1987 movie.

The local media, not surprisingly, has committed to getting to the bottom (it’s nearly impossible to avoid puns here) of this lingerie-related story. The Post reports that a Limited Brands (Victoria’s Secret’s parent company) spokesperson said the display is part of a national marketing campaign and they have received some complaints (though we’re pretty sure company officials aren’t complaining about all the free advertising). And NBC 4 has gathered reactions from shoppers, which range from enthusiasm to abject horror. But what about those at the center of the controversy? How would you like to be called “slutty” just for doing your job? DCist e-mails and calls to Victoria’s Secret mannequins were not returned by press time.

We are undecided as to whether this display will actually degrade the moral fiber of passers by, but until this all blows over, DCist plans to look to our WWGD (What Would Gisele Do?) bracelet for guidance.

What do you think? Is the display more art house or whorehouse?
