>> Hometown artist and color field innovator Sam Gilliam’s work is everywhere this month. A sizable inventory of pieces were hung last Friday at the Marsha Mateyka Gallery, and a retrospective is due to open at the Corcoran Gallery of Art this Saturday.
>> It’s your last week to catch Jason Zimmerman’s video installation at Transformer Gallery, titled Fair Game. Zimmerman’s looping edit of scenes from the FOX show Cops is one of those cases where the idea is so natural and yet says so much, you feel like you might have thought of it yourself.
>> A little bird told us there will be a formal opening reception for Solo3 on Thurs., Oct. 13 from 6-8 p.m. at The Gallery at Warehouse. Anyone heading to the Nethers show next door, shame on you if you don’t head over early and check it out.
>> Another 2nd Friday of the month means another Bethesda Art Walk, with 13 galleries staying open late for your touring pleasure. DCist is ready to admit we rarely feel the urge to head to Bethesda on a Friday night, but if any readers out there have a bold restaurant suggestion, perhaps we’ll take the plunge on Oct. 14.
>> Normally we don’t run around suggesting you leave D.C. in your spare time, but there are 2 great reasons to make the trip to the Baltimore Museum of Art right now. Monet’s London: Artist’s Reflections on the Thames is finally open to much fanfare, and after two years of renovations, the Museum is reopening its Jacobs Wing. On display are European works from the 15th through 19th centuries, including works by Albrecht Durer, Sandro Botticelli, and Jean Baptiste Simeon Chardin.
