It had been a long time since the Redskins had found their way to a midseason division game that found them looking to actually take over the top spot and assert dominance instead of trying to make up games on the division leader. And after their thorough drubbing of the 49ers, Sunday’s meeting with the Giants was seen as a chance to turn the final corner and start being thought of as a playoff contender. The mood the past week was positive, the players upbeat, and there was a lot of ink spilled over the prospect at the Washington-New York Giants rivalry returning to the quality and intensity of the matches that found Joe Gibbs and Bill Parcels stalking each other from opposite sidelines.
Well, corner turning, next stepping, rivalry restoration and the positive thinking is going to have to wait after the Giants blanked Washington 36-0. And every aspect of the game was just as bad as the final score suggests. The Giants beat the crap out of Washington so thoroughly that Tiki Barber is going to spend his next day off administering high colonics at 740 Park.
