Now that Black Friday and her bastard half-brother Cyber Monday are behind us, it’s time to ditch mall food court and Internet cafes in favor of shopping among a real, slightly more civilized crowd. On Saturday, several local businesses are partnering to host charity shopping events benefiting oh-so worthy organizations. As if that weren’t reason enough to break out the plastic, the D.C. tax holiday is still in full effect. Suddenly we’re feeling festive…
Shopping for Life: On Saturday, several local stores will donate a percentage of sales to the Whitman-Walker Clinic. So start shopping for gifts like Habitual jeans and Botkier bags at Muleh (1831 14th Street, NW). Gifts for yourself, that is.
Other participating stores include go mama go! (1809 14th St. NW), Urban Essentials (1330 U St. NW), Capital Carpet and Furniture (1825 and 1917 14th St. NW) and all area locations of that bastion of Marimekko prints and yuppiedom, Crate & Barrel.
Sparky’s Espresso Cafe (1720 14th St. NW) is also participating, so stop in and grab a large Americano at to help you power through the day. And don’t forget to stop by Garden District (1801 14th St. NW) to pick up your Christmas tree – or is it holiday tree these days?
tranquiliT Holiday Trunk Show: Saturday also marks the second annual tranquiliT holiday trunk show Tranquil Space (2024 P St.) from 6-8 p.m., which benefits the Fund for Women Artists.
The event will feature 25 local female designers, such as the tranquiliT line, which includes funky yoga bags and versatile apparel such as a capelet that doubles as a skirt. Also, check out handmade designs from Swank Creations, tu-anh, What Fun!, Pearly Girls, Steel Heart Designs and the fabulously-named Barefoot Czarina.
Oh yeah, there’s also complimentary massages, libations and bags o’ swag for the first 100 guests. Just don’t say we didn’t warn you about shopping under the influence.
