Yesterday DCist popped by Open City in Woodley Park, a new “coffeehouse/diner/bar” from the folks behind Adams Morgan’s popular Tryst and The Diner. While we didn’t try the food our companion dined on decadent-looking chocolate cake, and the plates going by seemed to match the generally good quality we’ve found at the proprietor’s Adams Morgan establishments. Over at the Post’s City Guide, Open City has gotten mixed reviews, perhaps a reflection of some of the early kinks they have experienced in their first three weeks. At least one local blogger had a favorable impression, though.
Although former DCist editor Mike Grass commented, “As a Woodley Park resident, I hope this place does well and won’t be run over like The Diner and Tryst are at most hours of the day,” we’re afraid he won’t be able to find a quiet moment. While we were there we overheard the bartender talking about how busy they had been, and the restaurant was nearly full of people at 3:00 p.m. on a Friday afternoon, including several wearing conventioneer’s badges. We’ve heard there’s already a hefty wait for brunch on the weekend. We’ll certainly be noting Open City as a good spot to meet up in Woodley Park, but don’t expect tranquility.
