The Post’s Reliable Source confirms today the news that Ana Marie Cox will be officially leaving her gig as the voice behind Wonkette to better focus on writing a follow-up to her debut novel, Dog Days, which is due to be released tomorrow. Wonkette will live on, jointly helmed by David Lat, who earned notoriety through his Supreme Court blog Underneath Their Robes, and Alex Pareene, a 20-year-old NYU dropout.
Cox’s book, which is published by Riverhead Books and weighs one pound, is described by the publisher as a “razor-sharp comic novel that chronicles the romantic and political life of a young campaign staffer in Washington, D.C.” Reviews of the work have been tepid; yesterday, the New York Times examined Dog Days in a piece that focused rather intently on Cox’s BlackBerry. The paper of record generally adopted ambivalence toward the novel, which seems to be intriguingly autobiographical (DCist was sadly unable to procure an advance copy).
