This week’s agenda written by DCist Contributor Chris Snyder.

With the arrival of the new year comes a reflection on the past and the anticipation of what lies ahead. Similarly, this week in music offers both a chance to experience some classic rock remixed and a sneak peak at some rising stars.

MONDAY:
>> Start your week off on a high note by catching former Yes bassist , Chris Squire, and newly added drummer Alan White as The Syn (pictured) bring their self proclaimed “prog modernism” to Alexandria’s Birchmere. $35.

>>Or if you missed the first few performances of DC’s own CTC as they fought their way through round one of Emergenza, “The European and North American Live Festival for Up and Coming Bands,” at the Velvet Lounge back in December, you can show your support at their CD release party w/ Pluto at the Black Cat. $5.

TUESDAY:
>>Not a whole lot happening in the District, but Indie alt-pop foursome, Boxcar Collision (pictured), will get you up and moving with their catchy lyrics and lead singer Ashlee Wilcox’s melodic vocals this Tuesday at Iota along with skillful jazz improvisation from England’s bold brass duo, the Mason Brothers. $10.

WEDNESDAY:
>> If you aren’t planted on your couch panting in anticipation of the return of ABC’s “Lost” tonight might be the night to take advantage those restaurant week reservations.
