We knew this day had to come. This morning, the Washington Post’s witty and sardonic Lisa de Moraes clued us into the fact that this will indeed be the last season of the political drama The West Wing. NBC execs are cancelling the fictional White House drama, now in its seventh season, due to poor ratings and, we might add, totally boring story lines. The series finale is scheduled to air on May 14th with President Bartlett leaving the White House.

We’ve been mourning the downfall of this once great show since Aaron Sorkin left, so this isn’t entirely unwelcome news, but still, it is a little sad for us fans. Not as sad as when Sam left the show or as sad as that Christmas episode when Mrs. Landingham talked about her sons dying in the Vietnam war, but still sad. We jumped off this ship last season, but plan on watching the next few episodes to see how everything wraps up.

Perhaps we’ll have to give Commander in Chief a try?
