District music fans – looks like someone has a case of the mundays! Nothing will cheer you up like a few rounds on the local music scene, and we’ve got your back.

Monday
>> Who says DCist doesn’t cover hip-hop? Be sure to check out the rhymes of Cool Cee Brown (pictured) and his CD release party tonight at DC9. Joining him will be Jamila, Heron Gibran, Asheru, and W. Ellington Felton, and DJ 2 Tone Jones will be providing the beats. 9:30 p.m., $7.

>> Also, in the 2nd week of the National Geographic Live! Rhythm Road Series, catch Rhythmic Prophecies Latin Jazz Ensemble at 6 pm and Grup Yanqui at 7:15 pm. The groups were hand picked by the U.S. State Department to represent U.S. music abroad, and will be playing Grosvenor Auditorium at National Geographic Society Headquarters in advance of their world tours. 1600 M St. NW, Free admission.
