NBC4 is reporting that the hip (but not too hip) Axis Salon on Connecticut Avenue has decorated its storefront for Valentine’s Day, but at least a few people are not feeling the love.
The display apparently features a cupid armed not with typical bow and arrow, but with a rifle, along with a bullet case-strewn floor, faux bullet holes in the walls, and red paint standing in for blood just about all over the place. Love is a battlefield, indeed, so we get the point — Cupid’s aim can be deadly, and for those without a partner, Valentine’s Day is often just a painful reminder of old wounds. Festering, bloody wounds.
Then again, maybe some of the salon’s neighbors, who have reportedly complained about the decorations, shouldn’t have to be confronted with a horror-film style scene of gore and violence. They probably get enough of that whenever they tune in to a local TV news station anyway.
If you’ve happened by the Axis Salon of late, drop your thoughts in the comments. Is this sort of display offensive or funny?
And if you happen to have a Valentine lined up already, you’ve got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya?
