Tired of all those museums, monuments, bars, restaurants and other entertainment options that the District has to offer? Head on out to Fairfax County. There might be something in it for you. From an email we received today:
You might be aware of Fairfax County’s efforts to increase tourism. In a way, you could say that they are trying to become the next Orange County, CA or Kissimee/Orlando, FLA. Tomorrow, Visit Fairfax will have a big event where Chairman Connolly will ceremonially ‘bury’ an Infiniti FX to kick-off a treasure hunt which they are hoping will help turn FXVA into a major East Coast tourism destination.
So Fairfax County (oops…those of us in the know refer to it as FxVA) is looking to lure more tourists by hiding a $37,000 SUV? How many disappointed children are there going to be when they find out that their annual family vacation involves driving from Clifton to Herndon in a mad search for a hidden car? If they really wanted to be a tourist destination like Orange County or Orlando wouldn’t they, you know, build a Disneyworld?
