Washington Times columnist Tom Knott uses his column inches today to address the curious commenting habits of certain Ward 3 Council candidates. The piece (which magnanimously mentions this site and quotes my co-editor) focuses on alias-in-chief Thelma Roque and, I think it’s safe to say, teases the inspiration behind her and her grammatically-challenged siblings.

Mr. Knott, we hope you know what you’re doing.

Many have trod this ground before and suffered the consequences. The Post has not been immune, and neither has the City Paper, but it does seem that the print publications are learning to mention his name only in spaces that lack comment sections. Last week, the City Paper’s James Jones wrote the following in his Loose Lips column:

Most candidates who appeared in person chose a low-key performance instead. Ward 3 council hopeful and notorious community e-mail discussion group pest Jonathan Rees was so intent on getting to the office early that he appeared to have passed on the shower and shave. And his clothing choice apparently slipped by his fashion advisers. Rees presented himself in an oversized white T-shirt emblazoned with a glittery label: “Crazy Caribbean.”

Ballsy, but while he may have been faced with angry emails, he didn’t find himself deleting hundreds of hysterical comments. Likewise, Knott knows the Times’ bandwidth won’t be abused by pseudonymous Rees-bots.

But don’t rest too easy, Tom. Rees finds a way.
