Perhaps it’s the heat and humidity, but it has been mighty quiet out there this week. This week’s quote of the week seems particularly apt, not just because it takes on everyone’s favorite public official — the D.C. parking enforcement officer — but also as a tribute to last night’s national spelling bee, which was held in our fair city.
It has also come to our attention that some of our readers would like to see us adopt the snarky titles that accompany entries on our vastly superior parent, Overheard in New York (who we once again thank heartily for letting us borrow their concept). So, here’s your new, improved Overheard in D.C., now with additional snark.

Quote of the Week
Champlain Street, Adams Morgan:
D.C. Parking Enforcement while writing a ticket: “What street is this?”
Champlain Street Resident who pauses from cell phone conversation: “Champlain Street. The sign is right there.”
D.C. Parking Enforcement: “What? I don’t see it. What’s it called?”
Resident: “Champlain.”
D.C. Parking Enforcement: “How do you spell that?”
After the jump, Santa Claus and fledgling arsonists.
