FRIDAY:
>> Provisions Library’s Cartoon Film Series continues tonight with Ducktators, Dutch director Wolter Braamhorst’s look at the use of cartoons as propaganda during World War II. The film, originally released in 1997, sheds light on how entertainment and war have gone hand-in-hand since at least the 1940s, and features interviews with famed Loony Tunes animator Chuck Jones. 7 p.m., free.
>> Be sure to check out the Arts Agenda for details on the gallery shows opening tonight.
SATURDAY:
>> It’s time again for the popular Dog Days of August sidewalk sale and street festival along U and 14th Streets NW. Check out the Web site for an exhaustive list of all the special offerings the members of the MidCity Business Association will be serving up. You can bet we’ll be stopping by Busboys and Poets for free lemonade, and Green Pets for a snowcone. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., also Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
>> Yeah, we know what you’re thinking. Exactly how punk rock can this reunion tour by The Germs actually be with that dude from ER at the microphone. But word has it he’s doing a spot-on Darby Crash impersonation instead of trying to be one of those actors who have their own crappy rock bands, which we can kind of respect. They’re at Black Cat with Deep Sleep and Polynation. $15, at 9:30 p.m.
SUNDAY:
>> We always enjoy ourselves at Columbia Heights’ official bar, the Wonderland Ballroom, so count us in for the 2nd Anniversary of Celebration of Wonderland from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. Bands will reportedly play on both floors, and in keeping with the bar’s classy spirit, everyone will do a “mini High Life toast” at some point in the evening. Nothing like the champagne of beers to mark an important milestone.
