The many neighborhood listservs in the District provide an additional way for members of the community to communicate, share problems, offer advice, and otherwise detail the daily ups and downs of their street, their local park, or their neighbors. The sheer amount of exchanges offer a treasure trove of material, so much so that the City Paper’s blog, City Desk, dedicates a bi-weekly feature to it.

This gem came across my local listserv today, which covers the arbitrarily defined area of Hill East — the eastern end of Capitol Hill, from 11th Street to RFK Stadium, roughly. My neighbors are an active bunch, but have recently been stymied by a number of crimes in the area. The author in question is a civic leader if there ever was one, but he can tend towards the sarcastic side. He wrote, detailing a walk around a local park last night:

We also found one bag chock full o’ marijuana, and we’d like to return it to its rightful owner. Does anyone know who this might be? We’d also like some volunteers to help up put up flyers in the neighborhood and elsewhere about the bag of weed we found. Perhaps, then, if the party who lost the weed is not on the listserv, he or she can be notified that way that the lost weed has been found, is in safe hands and that the neighbors around Spielberg Park are good-hearted people.

Something like: “FOUND: BAG OF WEED! Also known as Reefer, Dope, Mary Jane, Pot, Bud, The Green Guy, Grass, Ganja, Stuff, Boo-ya, Chronic, Herb, THC, Indo, etc. Found Aug. 9 in Spielberg Park, the popular party spot at 17th and Massachusetts Avenue SE after a long night of festivities there. The weed has a few seeds, and is perhaps laced with PCP, but what the heck … Will the rightful owner please ….”

Anyone want to claim it? We’ll need a form of identification, a home address, local telephone number, and, if possible, a receipt.
