Whether you’ve ever walked into an art gallery and seriously thought, “Hmm, I could do that,” or you’re just looking for a way to stretch your creative muscles, the city is overflowing with art classes and easels with your name on them. Practice something you’ve always loved, or try something new and unusual. Whatever you do, don’t sit in front of the TiVo waiting for inspiration to strike. At the very least, you’ll make out with some fantastic ashtrays.

>>For the serious art pursuers, or at least those with a lot of disposable income, the Corcoran College of Art and Design is awaiting your application. Though this art school turns out some fantastic local artists every year, you don’t have to consider a major career change to enroll. The Corc offers individual classes to bring out your inner muse. Check out the Intro Photography and Figure Drawing classes to start. After all, how are you going to write your mid-life memoirs without a good “I made out with the nude model” story?

>>What’s that? You don’t have two grand to spend on a semester of classes? Don’t worry, there are tons of options out there for those of us who are already living like struggling artists. The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop is accepting enrollment for much more affordable art classes. Start with something traditional like watercolor painting, then branch out with an acting class, or relax with knitting or even yoga. An update from the comments: Mention DCist while signing up and CHAW will give you 10% off their class fee!
