If you work near 16th and L, you might have noticed that going to work this morning was a little worse than usual. And not just because the of the miniature existential crisis that every long weekend brings — in addition to that Labor Day malaise, the traffic situation was and continues to be pretty godawful. Sixteenth Street is blocked off by police cars, and somebody seems to have constructed a tent across two lanes of L street. There’s tight security, too: a Secret Service officer (judging by the earpiece) stopped me from locking my apparently dangerous-looking bike to a parking meter.

What the heck is going on? Well, MediaBistro provides some answers, via an internal Post memo. The streets around the Capitol Hilton will be closed from 10:30 to 3 p.m., and even pedestrian traffic will be prohibited during the departure of an unnamed VIP. Whoever could it be?

Could this be the location of today’s presidential address? You know, the one where the President will tell us that America is “safer, but not safe [enough to vote for the other party]”? We’re thinking the answer may be yes.

C-SPAN says the address begins at 1:20. Plan your L-street strolling accordingly.
